So, It's Been a Year...And??

jleetrbn

I recently completed my first year as the Director of the AZ Swing Kings! That lends itself to a few questions of the "So What" variety, such as:

1) How did it go?

2) Did you learn anything?

3) What's next?

So, in order then:

How Did It Go? - This year was a blast! Sometimes literally, I'll admit...but overall, it was a great experience! The audiences were enthusiastic and welcoming, the music was new and exciting, we launched new themes and events, and the band was INTO IT! For a "Rookie" Director, who could ask for more?

Did You Learn Anything? - Oh, boy! Did I ever! Primarily, I learned to ask for help!! Thankfully, our Director Emeritus, Len King, has been an ongoing resource of knowlege and experience in helping with this launch. In addition, Rick Lamb (now part of our Trombone section) has been a workhorse in our Marketing and Communications, freeing me up to focus on the Music! And, I learned from the Musicians. I am extremely privileged to be working with such a talented (and FUN!) group!

3) What's Next? - During the last year, we found there was a need for special Themes and Events, including our "Great American Songbook...and All That Jazz" concerts, and our "Patriotic", "Holiday", and "Celebration of Love" events ( Celebration of Love is happening on 2/16/25 at Bellevue Heights Church). We will be adding another offering for the 2025-2026 Season, titled "Celebration of Living", that connects us all to where we have been, what we have achieved, the loves we have known, and the opportunities that still await us! Stay tuned for more info!

Finally, a big "Thank You" to all our friends who have helped this year be successful. Without you, we're just rehearsing. With you, we have the opportunity to create something special every time we perform. Here's to a Swingin' 2025!

Great Jazz, Great...Fun? Really?!

We have a motto in the Swing Kings..."Great Jazz, Great Fun!". But...what does that really mean? And, do you need both? In a word...YES!...
